I've
been leading this mod for over two years
and I've seen alot of people come, and
slightly less go. I have seen what makes
a good team member and why people eventually
leave. If your considering joining,
this document may ask some questions
about yourself. Joining when your not
really suitable would be a mistake and
would only waist your time. Be honest.
To
be a good member, the focus is less
on your talent and more about how you
use it. I know many excellent people
who could have released brilliant mods
long ago, if only they could apply themselves
correctly. There is no point being immortal,
if you don't want to live.
Dedication
- How much time can you spend working?
In reality this is alot less than you
may imagine. Is your life becoming more
complicated? May you be forced to leave
in a month or two because of real life
issues? This is a question of ability. How
able you are to give yourself to the
mod.
Passion
- I love doing this. I can't tell you
why i spend alot of my spare time doing
this stuff, I just do. Why would you
join? If it is because you love making
mods, and you love the idea of what
your working towards, Thats good. On
the other hand, if you like to chat
aimlessly about genral stuff in irc,
that would be a bad reason to join.
Also if you feel if your part of the
mod it would make you a better person.
You make yourself, AMOD can only give
you the opportunity and enviroment to
participate, it cannot do the work for
you.
Professionalism
- while the team are all friends, thats
not why we are here. Producing the mod
is the no. one reason for working together.
Working with friends is easier, but
it obligates to stretch deadlines and
loosens the development structure.
Persistence
- are you prone to the one week on,
one week off? This is unprofessional
and unworkable. Even if you feel you
produce more work this way, in my oppinion
it comes down to the tourtoise and the
hare.
Specialist
- this is the one area that requires
skills rather than the right attitude.
We mainly need 2d art (like skinning),
some mapping , etc. But this is the
loosest section of all. If you do not
conform to the above requirements, you
are no use to the team. However, if
you have the right attitude and a reasonable
level of talent, it would be a pleasure
to work with you.
As
you can tell, i take mododing very seriously.
I have worked on large teams before
and have found them unecconomical, badly
structured, terrible communication and
low production output. A small, highly
involved team is the right way to go.
If
you think AMOD is for you, please email
me.
